Objetives of 25 CUIEET
Why “Innovation on technical Education in a in a competence-based world”?
The RD 1393/2007 which establishes the official Universitary studies ordinance states that “teaching programs conductive to a Degree should include the acquisition of COMPETENCES by the students. This widens (without excluding) the traditional perspective based on the content and presence lectures (…). Emphasis has to be made on the learning methods as well as the evaluation strategies of these competences (…). This new arrangement will increase the employability of the graduates.
It is therefore evident that within the EEES context, the teachers are encouraged to evolve from a content and teacher-centered perspective to competence and student-centered one.
This perspective is also taken into account at pre-universitary levels (ECD/65/2015, 2st January). That is to say, requests regarding the Educational models are being raised up not only from the society but also from the organizations and enterprises.
This perspective is clearly described at the UNESCO site (Rethinking Education, towards a global common good?). This report states literally: “The changes in today’s interconnected and interdependent world are bringing new levels of complexity, tensions and paradoxes, as well as new knowledge horizons that we need to consider. Such patterns of change require efforts
to explore alternative approaches to progress and to human well-being. The future of education and development in today’s world requires fostering a dialogue among different worldviews with the aim of integrating knowledge systems originating in diverse realities, and to establish our common heritage…”
Since the 22nd CUIEET edition, celebrated in Almadén, competences are object of a specific thematic area, although they are distinguished as transversal ones. The 2rd edition progressed in this concept, including the thematic area 7: Higher competence-based education. Last CUIEET edition (C’adiz) maintained area 7 and included a new approach, including professional competences.
This 25 the CUIEET aims that all activities (plenary conferences, workshops etc) revolve around the term COMPETENCE. This does not exclude that the essence of the Conference will be to serve as a forus for discussion and reflection, on any experience included in former editions. Thus, the sharing od experiences will in all cases be aimed to facilitate the improvement of the teaching-learning process, the quality of technical degrees, the University-Society-Enterprise relations, the International relations and the mobility, the sustainability and, in general, the innovation in any area of interest related to the different agents implied in Education.
In order to reach the objetives aimed in this CUIEET edition a few thematic areas (shown next) have been selected. Moreover, the participation options have been increased, and the communication selection mechanisms have been enhanced. In addition, diffusion has been promoted providing several publication possibilities and the creation of a networking will definitely be interesting to foster collaborations. Obviously, the ludic part of the conference has also been covered. All these novelties are described in detail in the section “Novelties”.

The definition of these thematic areas has been made attending to two criteria: on the one hand, keeping traditional areas which should be object for analysis and reflection; on the other hand, including those aspects which occasionally can have a major importance in the current context (such as teaching through competences, internationalization, orientation…). Moreover, in the particular case of thematic 12, a new initiative has been implemented: the First Meeting on Innovation and Young Engineers (I&YE) which is launched this year for the first time, with the aim of remaining in future editions.
Finally, the topics have been arranged according to the different academic levels, from the the –pre-University levels, to the graduate stage, in which the students have relations with enterprises, professional institutions and the Society. The analysis and discussion of this information will allow a proper design of new degrees, as well as the improvement of existing-courses.
