The 25 CUIEET aims to maintain all positive features related to the former editions and thus, at least guarantee a similar quality, but it also aims to enhance some particular questions, as described below:
“Innovation in technical education in a competence-based world”
In 2012, the EC “A new education concept: invest in competences to achieve better socioeconomical results (Rethinking Education, RE)”, in order to “…encourage the member nations to tackle inmediate measures to guarantee that Young people can adquire the skills and competences needed for job market, in order to reach the target employment objetives”
However, the conclusions obtained from some repoprts, such as “Barómetro de empleabilidad y empleo de los universitarios en España 2015”, made on more than 13000 graduates of the term 2009-2010, of 46 public and private universities, question that this challenge is being properly addressed. The report states: “(…) the graduates demand a renovation of the teaching methods, because an active learning through projects and practical work is lacking (…) Classical non-adequate procedures are predominant. Learning theories, concepts and paradigms is the main feature of the teaching strategies of Spanish universities, while active learning is only contemplated to a minor extent. (…)”…, These conclusions give evidence about the lack of synthony of Spanish teaching models with other competence-based models, increasingly present in international Universities.
The Word COMPETENCE is frequently used nowadays, and has a different meaning depending on its user. For this reason, it is necessary to fix a common definition that can be used as starting point. The perspective we defend in 25 CUIEET (metodología npS®) is related to next figure, where the Word competence is defined from 5 basic elements: to know, to know how to say, to know how to do, to know how to be, and to know how to want (or simply, to want ):
1.- INCREASE OF THE PARTICIPATION AND COMMUNICATION DIFFUSION MODALITIES. PAIR REVISION
“To know” is fundamental; it is essential to go straighforward; however, it is not enought in the current World. In this Conference, as it happens in all, there is a place for knowledge diffusion. This COMPETENCE aspect will be covered, like in former editions, by the quality communications in each thematic area. Plenary conferences and round tables will also contribute to this diffusion.
As a novelty in the present edition, the participation modalities have been increased, trying to cover the aspect “To know how to say” of the COMPETENCE. Both presential and virtual participation modalities are accepted, in different formats (written format, poster and/or video). The participation in workshops and coworking areas (described below) will also contribute to the improvement of the aspects: “Know how to say” and “Know how to do”.
The current edition also aims to make an exhaustive communication selection, so a PAIR REVISION process will be implemented, using particular protocols. Different publication possibilities will also be implemented to enhance diffusion.
In order to contribute to the aspect “To know how to say” and, especially, “To know how to do”, this Edition includes for the first time a the possibility of participating with a demostrative workshop (individually or in groups) of theories, methodologies, experiences, simulations,. In this case this participation modality will be selected at the registration moment.
Some specific workshops will also be suggested by the Organizing comitee, to which attendants will apply also at the registration step.
3.- COWORKING AREAS
In line with the aspect “To Know how to be”, one of the most challenging and exciting novelties in this Edition is the creation of collaborative areas among the Conference attendants, which will enhance the formation of research/innovation groups in areas of interest.
For this, once the attendants have registered on the targeted topics, the Congress Organization will establish collaborative work spaces, with short duration in which people with common interests will join with the aim of stablishing the basis of future Project on their area of interest. These initiatives will be designed according to a WIN-WIN model, which will optimize resources and will be described in detail to the people involved.
This will allow to increase the participant contact networking. It is aimed that next CUIEET editions will also be a showcase of the results and evolution of these collaborative projects.
At present, in order to contribute to the aspect “To know how to be” it is essential to contamplate the keywords CONTEXT and BEHAVIOUR, and with them INTERNACIONALIZATION. This edition aims to enhance the internacionalization character, and it has broadened the participation possibility to our colleagues from Portugal and Ibero-America, especially, without impeding the involvement of
However, making the conference more international has to do with making it more GLOBAL, and that is why we consider essential to tackle related topics (movility, double-degrees, exchange options, etc.) through the different conference topics. “To know how to be” is closely related to have skills to be addapted to new cultures, traditions, ways of behaving, etc. Some of the workshops will be focused in this line and contributions in this frame will be welcome.
From the Organization view, the COMPETENCE, “to know to want” (also named “to know”) must also be tacked in this Edition. In this line two novel initiatives will be launched in this Edition: on the one hand, different awards are contemplated in each participation modality (comunications, workshops and/or proposals), which will be given according to previously established criteria.
6.- SPECIAL LEISURE PROGRAM FOR ASSISTANTS AND COMPAGNION
The other question motivating the COMPETENCE “want” has to do to the free time activities in this tipe of meetings. We believe that this aspect can be effectively enhanced with an extensive leisure program, both for attendants and compaignons. It will also allow to improve concepts related to “to know how to be” in the relations established between all participants.
For this reason, we encourage all participants to look up to the Leisure section, where they will confirm that travelling to past is posible in this land, enjoying unforgettable moments related to the passage of different cultures through time in Extremadura. Experiences such as Roman, Middle-age, Arabic Extremadura and the visit to nearby Portugal, will definitely leave an indelible print in the memory of all assitants.
7.- I MEETING I&YE (Innovation and Young Engineers)
Finally, one of the main NOVELTIES of this edition is the creation of the 1st Meeting on Innovation and Young Engineers (I&YE), which, we hope, will be included from now on, in each CUIEET edition.
It is aimed that Young engineers, close to finish (or having finished) their degrees participate in this Meeting. These engineers will present their experiences, reflections, proposals, undertaking actions, problems, etc., in relation to their Education or brief profesional experience. Their presentation will be regarded as a feedback by the rest of participants (both from teaching-learning process or from subsequent stages: employers, investors…).
We do believe that, in accordance to the reflections previously described in the report “Barómetro de empleabilidad y empleo de los universitarios en España en 2015”, this meeting will provide a real knowledge on the “outside circunstances”, which will definitely be very useful to improve existing Degrees or to créate new ones.
Finally, this Meeting will be a “showcase” for many students ot young engineerins, in which they will be able to shape their “own brand”, showing their COMPETENCES.
